Aisha Buhari has changed her official title to the same designation Buhari promised years ago to scrap.


Aisha Buhari has announced that her official title is "First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria" and not "Wife of the President" as she was known in President Muhammadu Buhari's first term.

When the president was inaugurated in 2015, Aisha's office was referred to by the presidency as the "Office of the Wife of the President".



However, weeks after he was sworn in for a second term, she has announced a change so as to avoid confusion.

While speaking during an award night and dinner in honour of wives of former and current governors at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, June 13, 2019, she said the new title takes immediate effect.

She said, "When my husband was elected newly I personally chose to be called the wife of the president, but I realised that it causes confusion from the state as to whether the wives of state governors are to be addressed as the first ladies or wives of the governors.

"So, forgive me for confusing you from the beginning, but now I chose to be called the first lady."

President Buhari had promised while campaigning for his first term that there would be no office of the first lady as it isn't recognised by the constitution.

Death from the security issues we have in the north, to death from the food crises we have in other parts of the Nation, not to even talk about the on going strikes and dis-functionalities by different educational bodies and health parastatals in a country of over 170 million people with a GDP of over $300 million.

So what exactly are we celebrating in the president. Although, we can’t fully blame Mr President for all these, but we also voted him to fix these, seems we are yet to see any improvement.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his gratefulness to the Swiss government for its support in resuscitating Nigeria’s economy, especially by repatriating stolen funds to the country.



The president expressed his gratitude while receiving Letters of Credence from the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, George Steiner, at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, Deember 11, 2018.

According to a statement signed by the president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, he said the return of stolen funds and interventions in the crisis in the North East further indicate the Swiss government’s commitment to the development of Nigeria.

“We are grateful to the Swiss government for allowing stolen funds to be brought back to Nigeria,” he said.

The president further noted that the facilitating roles the Swiss government had been playing in the North East, particularly in reaching out to Internally Displaced Persons, had been most helpful.

He promised that bilateral relations between both countries will continue to be strengthened.

Steiner assured President Buhari that the Swiss government will always be disposed to supporting Nigeria in ensuring peace in the country, especially in the North East, which has been troubled by a nine-year insurgency by terrorist group, Boko Haram.

“We have strong and solid relations with Nigeria. It’s an honour and privilege for us to contribute to issues of importance in the country,” he said.

On November 1, 2017, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Nigeria and Switzerland for the repatriation of the $322 million looted by former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, revealed in April 2018 that the sum of $322,515,931.83 was received into a special account in the Central Bank of Nigeria on December 18, 2017.

Davido has reacted to claims that his account has been frozen by the EFCC in Nigeria.





There are allegations that one of the bank accounts of Davido has been frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.


The allegation was made by a Twitter account belonging to @PDP_2019 on Friday, September 14, 2018.


In the tweet, the account alleged that the EFCC froze seven different bank accounts belonging to members of the Adeleke family and which include Davido, his billionaire dad, Dr Deji Adeleke and the Osun state governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, Ademola Adeleke.

Davido reacts to alleged frozen account by EFCC
Davido has reacted to the allegations that his account was frozen by the EFCC.

While Pulse is yet to confirm if the singer's bank account was frozen, Davido took to his Twitter to mock the allegation.

"Make dem go Wells Fargo for ATL na," he wrote in response to a fan's tweet about the account frozen allegation.

Davido announces performances at uncle's campaign rallies
On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, Davido released a 35 seconds video on his social media accounts announcing performances ahead of his uncle, Senator Ademola Adelek's campaign rallies in Osun state.


In the video, Davido urged his fans and youths in Osun state to support and vote for his uncle to become the next governor of Osun state under the PDP.

Davido had cut short his American tour to return home for his National Youth Corp Service.

The Presidency has rejected allegations by opposition politicians and their cohorts that President Muhammadu Buhari declined assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2018, because he was against e-voting and the use of card readers in the 2019 elections.


It made this known on Sunday in a statement sent to DAILY POST by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President.

According to the statement, the President’s recent decision to decline assent to the Bill had no effect on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s use of card readers for next year’s polls.

It further clarified that the issue was not raised either by the Executive or the Legislature in the latest review of the Bill that was declined.

The statement reads: “We wish to state in clear and unambiguous terms that the issue of e-voting and use of card readers was NEVER an issue for the President’s decision to decline assent to the Bill.

“It is equally important that this issue was not raised either by the Executive or the Legislature in the recent reviews. Moreover, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) adoption of e-voting reforms is enshrined in the 2015 Amendment Act to the Electoral Reform Act. Card reader is therefore a settled matter.

“Regrettably, purveyors of ‘fake news’ have been quick to churn out sensational headlines such as that of a leading newspaper, which screamed: “Card Reader in Jeopardy, Buhari Rejects Electoral Act Amendment Bill Again.

“Unfortunately, most of the critics of the President, including the editorial of a national daily this morning read out parts of the letters, as made available by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, detailing the issues that were of concern to the government.

“An issue has been raised by the President concerning some ill-prepared and flawed parts of the bill for which corrections needed to be made to allow for his signature. The President wanted engagement with the parliament for the corrections to be effected so that, at the end of the day, both arms of government will be happy with the fact that we have a good electoral law in place.



“The President is not in confrontation with the parliament on this issue. He has asked his officials to dialogue with the legislature for the corrections to be effected.

“As for his alleged rejection of the card reader, nothing can be farther from the truth.

“The President is the country’s number one fan of the card reader. For a candidate who ran three times and “lost” in an electoral environment in which votes were allocated and losers asked to go to court if they felt unhappy, the President knows fully well the role that the card reader played in his emergence in 2015.

“He has said times without number that he would strengthen and widen its application in the country and this, he is determined to do.

“Accordingly, we would like to appeal, especially to the media to disregard baseless allegations against the President, even as he puts in his best efforts in working with the National Assembly to give the nation a good electoral law, and in time.

“The card reader is not in danger of being discarded. It is a sine qua non for credible elections.

“We appeal to the National Assembly to reconvene as soon as possible to consider and approve the necessary corrections to the amended electoral act.”

While he was still working in Nigeria, the highest pay he received was N200,000 for a TV series that required him to work on set for three months. But as an actor in Ireland, it's a different story for Aguzie, who made millions of Naira for featuring in one movie.

"I made over Five Million Naira from one film. Not as a lead actor, but just as a professional actor," he told Pulse.

How much do actors really make in Nigeria?

Very few actors can still command the kind of deal that was more prevalent over a decade ago. Genevieve Nnaji, for instance, will still receive over a million naira for appearing in a Nollywood film, according to a source who spoke with Pulse. However, there are not so many producers who can afford big stars like her.

In 2014, Obi Emelonye was quoted to have said that Nnaji and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, two A-List actors he worked with on "The Mirror Boy" and "Last Flight to Abuja," respectively, have become too expensive as they cannot afford to charge less than their status.

He advised them to fund and star in their own productions. And in 2016, Nnaji, five years after her last lead role in the 2011 "Tango with Me," produced and starred in the film, "Road to Yesterday." And in 2017, she made her directorial debut with the anticipated star-studded comedy-drama, "Lion Heart."





Currently, most B-List actors are paid less than N400,000 per movie, and even in some cases, N200,000 per movie, a Nollywood insider tells Pulse. What they do is try to make four or five films in a month to be able to make up to N2 million. Or, they are offered N2 million to star in, at least, four films.

"There are producers paying people 50 and 100 thousand naira, which is unbelievable. But you see, those people don't care, they just want to appear in a film. A lot of the girls then get boyfriends they can collect money from, and next thing, they are producing their own film. That's why you see a lot of people, out of the blues, are producing their own film," the insider said.

Why is there a decline in actors' fees?

There are several factors that could have caused this decline, and the recession that hit Nigeria in 2016, forcing several companies to either fold, lay off staff, cut cost or take a pay cut, probably added more misery to an already bad situation.

In November 2016, the Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, told ThisDay Business that the entertainment company was facing tough times.

They couldn’t increase subscription rates after the devaluation of naira, despite the fact that they bought a lot of international content in dollars. However, to keep offering those content, they absorbed costs on behalf of their subscribers.

For a while, the entertainment company wasn't able to pay their bills and was supported by MultiChoice Africa.

It has been years, but quite a number of industries, individuals, businesses and investors are yet to recover from the infamous 2016 recession.
